Melt Department

Pier Foundry & Pattern Shop utilizes electricity to melt iron to a molten state. We operate a 5 metric ton electric induction furnace. Every 15 minutes 2,500 lbs of molten iron is distributed throughout the foundry to the various production lines. Iron is heated to a temperature of approximately 2,800° F and poured into molds at a temp between 2,400° F and 2,600° F.
